Summit 2008

The 6th Black Business Summit showcased the theme Sustaining Business Excellence. It continued the tradition of bringing delegates from across Canada and the United States, together to share insights and success stories of the Black business community. More than 300 attended this year's Summit.

Premier Rodney MacDonald was on hand to officially declare the 2008 Summit open. Premier MacDonald was joined by other government and local dignitaries.

Chaired by BBI's Chair of the Board, Cassandra Dorrington, the 2008 Black Business Summit proved a resounding success and boasted many highlights including the participation of keynote speakers Christopher Gardner, inspiration for the hit movie The Pursuit of Happyness, and Ephren Taylor, the youngest African American CEO of a publicly traded company.

Mr. Gardner and Mr. Taylor were compelling, real and offered sage advice to young and established entrepreneurs. They stressed the importance of never giving up and staying focused on one's dreams. They talked about the importance of seeing obstacles as opportunities, and the need and importance of mentors. As importantly, both men talked about the importance of giving back to one's own community.
